“Architecture of Density” by Michael Wolf
Über Chris’ Blog bin ich gerade auf die Webseite von Michael Wolf aufmerksam geworden, auf der er unter dem Titel “Architecture of Density” faszinierende Aufnahmen aus Hong Kong vorstellt. Die bedrückende Enge, die diese Fotos ausstrahlen wirkt jedoch ebenso faszinierend wie schockierend. Man beachte auch die zahllosen Klimaanlagen die an den Fassaden angebracht sind.
Dass man für so einen “Ausblick” nicht lange suchen muss, beweist eine Aufnahme aus meinem Zimmer während meines Hong Kong Aufenthalts.
Ebenfalls sehr sehenswert ist seine Fotostrekce “Hong Kong Back Door”.
Neue Ausgabe von Lonely Planet’s City Guide “Hong Kong & Macau”
Von Lonely Planet – dem Verlag für die besten Reiseführer schlechthin – gibt es seit kurzem eine neue Auflage des City Guides für Hong Kong & Macau.
Durch die übersichtliche Gliederung der Lonely Planet Reiseführer, die alles wissenswerte über die Stadt enthalten und ausführliche Informationen rund ums Thema Essen & Schlafen bieten, ist der Reiseführer für alle Hong Kong (und Macau) Reisende Pflicht.
Zu beziehen ist der Reiseführer ganz einfach über Amazon.
Die vorherige Ausgabe leistete mir sehr gute Dienste während meines Hong Kong Aufenthalts 2005.
Filmposter zu “2 Become 1″ aus MTR verbannt!
Wie kaijushakedown gestern gemeldet hat, wurde das Poster zum Film 2 Become 1 aus Hong Kongs U-Bahn – der MTR – verbannt. Der Film mit Miriam Yueng behandelt das Thema Brustkrebs, und das Poster ziert ein nackter Frauenkörper, dem eine Brust fehlt.
MTR CONTROVERSY
Hong Kong’s subway system, the MTR, is ridden by the most delicate people in the world. How else to explain the MTR’s history of banning movie posters they think will upset their riders? My favorite case was their ban on a poster of a ghost riding the MTR for Ann Hui’s VISIBLE SECRET. You’d think the MTR would love the implication that even dead people need to get around and that for the stylish and discerning spook nothing was better than the MTR. But no, they were worried their riders would be terrified at the suggestion that they might be sharing their precision personal space bubble with the living dead.
Now the MTR has banned the nipple-less poster for TWO BECOMES ONE, the pun-happy title of the new Miriam Yeung movie about breast cancer. The original title was MOURNING FOR THE BREAST which was a little too downbeat and depressing. I mean, breast cancer isn’t a country-flavored hoe-down with an all-you-can-eat buffet or anything but I’m glad to see that this flick might not be taking the position that losing a breast is necessarily followed by shaving your head, rejecting the material world, and entering a nunnery to die a sad and lonely life.
Miriam Yeung says that she’s bummed by this decision and thinks the poster is perfectly fine. The Hong Kong press, never shy about asking the important questions, asked if the naked body on the poster was hers.
“I hope I was her too! If I had that alluring figure, I wouldn’t mind flaunt it on a movie poster. Unfortunately, my body isn’t that perfect, so it would be unwise to display.”
Give her some points for being good-natured about what may be the stupidest question of 2006.

Ich möchte an dieser Stelle allen Freunden, Bekannten und Verwandten und jedem der sich sonst noch hierher verirrt ein glückliches, gesundes und vor allem friedvolles Jahr 2006 wünschen!
In Hong Kong fand auch heuer zum Jahreswechsel wieder der berühmte Times Square Apple Countdown statt.
Count Them Apples
That enormous television in Times Square will finally be put to good use, helping to ring in the New Year at the Times Square Apple Countdown. Stilt walkers and Canto-pop stars will entertain the crowds while dancing girls in colorful costumes shimmy their way around the square. Everyone who attends will receive party favors so they can toot their horns come 2006. And for those looking for a bit more action, indulge in the New Year’s Eve games to win shopping vouchers for the Times Square Mall.

Die teuersten Einkaufsstraßen der Welt
Platz zwei: Causeway Bay in Honkong (802,09 Euro pro Quadratmeter).
Da logierten wir während unseres Urlaubs in Hong Kong im Stadteil Causeway Bay ja richtig günstig 
. Die Ladenmieten in diesem quirligen Stadtteil gehören mittlerweile – so schreibt spiegel.de heute – zu den zweitteuersten der Welt. Davor rangiert lediglich die 5th Avenue in New York.
Die Ladenmieten in den Shopping-Straßen steigen weltweit an. Besonders hoch sind Kosten laut einer aktuellen Studie in New York, Hongkong und Paris. Aber auch in Deutschland gibt es ziemlich teure Top-Lagen.
Frankfurt am Main – In Münchens Kaufinger Straße zahlen Ladenbesitzer im Monatsschnitt 250 Euro pro Quadratmeter. Im Mietranking “Main Streets Across the World” des US-Immobilienberaters Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker (C&W/H&B) liegen die Bayern damit auf Rang neun der weltweit teuersten Einkaufsstraßen.
An der Spitze stehen die 5th Avenue in New York (963,20 Euro pro Quadratmeter), die Causeway Bay in Hongkong (802,09 Euro pro Quadratmeter) und der Champs Elysées in Paris (552,30 Euro pro Quadratmeter).
